Epidural Injection of Extended-Release Morphine During Colorectal Surgery
نویسنده
چکیده
series did highlight the advantages of extended-release epidural morphine with tolerable side effects, such as transient hypotension, respiratory compromise, pruritus, and nausea, in the context of colorectal surgery [9]. This prospective study provides an innovative technique for pain management in order to improve the outcomes of postoperative care in colorectal cancer patients and provides encouraging data that justify randomized controlled trails.

Continuous epidural infusion of morphine versus single epidural injection of extended-release morphine for postoperative pain control after arthroplasty: a retrospective analysis
BACKGROUND This study retrospectively compared the continuous epidural infusion of morphine with a single epidural injection of extended-release morphine for postoperative pain control after arthroplasty. METHODS Medical records were reviewed for subjects who had total knee or hip arthroplasty (THA) under spinal anesthesia and received either a continuous epidural infusion of morphine (Group ...
متن کاملEnhancing the Enhanced Recovery Program in Colorectal Surgery - Use of Extended-Release Epidural Morphine (DepoDur®)
PURPOSE DepoDur® is a single-dose extended-release morphine injection into the epidural space. It is not commonly used, but has many advantages over traditional analgesic regimens. We analyzed a number of these advantages in our case series in the context of the colorectal enhanced recovery program (ERP) and aimed to show that the ERP could be further enhanced by using DepoDur®. METHODS We co...
متن کاملEpidural ropivacaine versus epidural morphine and the catabolic response to colonic surgery: stable isotope kinetic studies in the fasted state and during infusion of glucose.
BACKGROUND The authors examined the hypothesis that epidural administration of local anesthetic, in contrast to epidural analgesia with morphine, inhibits postoperative protein oxidation during administration of glucose. METHODS Fourteen patients were randomly assigned to undergo a 6-h stable isotope infusion study (3 h fasted, 3 h feeding with 4 mg.kg(-1).min(-1) glucose) on the second day a...
متن کاملThoracic Epidural versus Morphine Patient Controlled Analgesia After Laparoscopic Colectomy
Despite the benefits of the laparoscopic approach to colorectal surgery patients still experience significant levels of pain postoperatively. This study aimed to compare the use of thoracic epidural vs. morphine patient controlled analgesia in the management of pain after laparoscopic colorectal surgery. A retrospective analysis of hospital records was performed for 16 patients undergoing lapar...
متن کاملA Clinical Approach to Neuraxial Morphine for the Treatment of Postoperative Pain
Opioids are considered a "gold standard" in clinical practice for the treatment of postoperative pain. The spinal administration of an opioid drug does not guarantee selective action and segmental analgesia in the spine. Evidence from experimental studies in animals indicates that bioavailability in the spinal cord biophase is negatively correlated with liposolubility, and is higher for hydroph...
